Patti's Scripture

D&C 64:23---Behold, now it is called called today until the coming of
the Son of Man, and verily it is the day of sacrifice, and
a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed
shall not be burned at his coming.

This scripture tells me that tithing is our fire insurance. I have had my testimony of tithing strengthened. When Neal and I were
First married, we didn’t think we had enough money to pay our tithing. We barely had enough to pay bills and buy food. We wanted to
go through the temple and paying tithing was a requirement to do so. We started paying our tithing and we were blessed to still have
enough money to pay all our bills. At first it was hard, but we had faith that the Lord would take care of us. Now it’s just part of me. If I forget to pay my tithing, I get worried and get it paid as soon as possible. The Lord has continued to bless us.

In the footnotes, there is a cross reference to D&C 119 in the heading. Joseph Smith asked how much is required to give. I thought it was interesting that the early saints (mainly the leading elders) were asked to live the law of consecration but many failed to do so. The saints were then asked to give of their surplus property and then give, as tithing, one-tenth of their interest annually.

This is one commandment that I can be perfect at.

Wayne's Scripture

Well, I don’t really have a favorite scripture to pull from at this time but maybe a few chapters from the Bible which depicts a great example of doing the Lords work. In Genesis, chapters 37-47 (or so), Joseph, the son of Jacob, was basically mistreated by his brothers to the point of possible destruction, but events turned for Joseph as he was sold to Potiphar, of Eqypt. This is a very interesting story as it resembles and is an example of how Joseph continued to serve our Lord not matter what. Joseph had the ability because of his faithfulness to turn everything he experienced in to something good and of godly characteristics. I know we all have knowledge of stories such as this throughout the scriptures, but this one depicts a man that turned not so good situation in to good.

As it pertains to us in current day and as it pertains to our individual lives and situations, we can perceive any negative situation as a problem, but, what are we really doing with this problem if we don’t counteract with a solution to the problem…and where do we go to seek guidance?

This is my Sunday Commentary or Scripture.

Justin's Scripture

Hello everyone,I am honored to have been asked to be a sub for the"scripture of the week".One of my favorite scriptures in the Book of Mormoncomes from King Benjamin in Mosiah 2:41 where he isgiving his last address to his people. He says:"And moreover, I would desire that ye should consideron the blessed and happy state of those that keep thecommandments of God. For behold, they are blessed inall things, both temporal and spiritual; and if theyhold out faithful to the end they are received intoheaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in astate of never-ending happiness. O remember, rememberthat these things are true; for the Lord God hathspoken it."This scripture gained meaning for me personally as Isaw how it became the motto for my mom as she enduredher ten year battle with cancer. She kept her eyes onthe spiritual goal and held out faithful until theend. I am sure that each of us would love to 'dwellwith God in a state of never-ending happiness' so thetrick is to hold out faithful to the end. We can doit with our Savior's help. The gospel of Jesus Christoffers hope for our eternal futures, it is a gospel ofhappiness. Thanks to all of you for accepting me so graciouslyinto your family. I have felt so welcomed and havereally come to love each and every one of you over thelast five years.Love,Justin

Mom's Scripture

D&C 10:5 Pray always, that you may come off the conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants fo Satan taht so uphold his work.
6; Behold, they have sought to destroy you; yea, even the man in whom you have trusted has sought to destroy you.
This means to me, dont put your trust in the world, but pray always and God will never let you down and you will wnin with him on your side.
I couldnt decide which one , so here is a second
D&C 14:7 And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gift of God.
I think God has a lot to give us, if we just remember him and know that he is our Father in Heaven.
Thanks for reading my scriptures. LOve Mom
